How the Compound Interest concept can help them build a vision.
🧠 Compound Interest explained by the Greats
1. Benjamin Franklin:
"Money makes money...And the money that money makes, makes money."
2. Albert Einstein:
“It’s the 8th wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it. He who doesn’t, pays it”.
3. Warren Buffett:
“My wealth has come from a combination of living in America, some lucky genes, and compound interest.”
✅ Compound Interest explained to a 10-year-old
Compound interest is when you earn interest on both the money you’ve saved and the interest you earn.
Basically, the basic concept is that the more time passes, the more you earn on your savings.
For years you feel like you are earning very little and then in the 20th year, your savings explode.
It's a concept I like to apply to so many aspects of life.
And today I want to apply it to the management of a football club.
✅ Football clubs & Compound Interest
Even I, who always knew the importance of compound interest, took years before I accepted it.
Because you have to be patient.
And patience is earned with experience.
👉 In football, patience is a rare coin.
Clubs always change everything too quickly.
❗ Players who don't have time to express themselves at their best.
❗ Coaches who don't have the time to convey their vision.
❗ Executives who don't have the time to make the club grow.
This mentality leads those who work in football to live in the short term.
Everything is planned from year to year.
Then a manager or a coach changes and we start from scratch.
❓ Without continuity how does a club grow?
It's dangerous to do that.
✅ The powerful mix of short and long-term goals
It takes time to get results.
It's not like a new owner arrives from the US and changes the club in six months.
It's not like a midfielder arrives from Brazil and changes the team in 2 months.
People have to get to know each other, they have to settle in, and they have to absorb the values of the club.
Like those who let money work and harness the power of compound interest see their savings grow, the club that chooses a strategy and has the patience to implement it can do better than richer clubs.
I like the saying hire fast, fire faster, promote fastest.
Sometimes things simply cannot get better.
But it is no longer tolerable for a club to change its strategy, values, and approach to growth based on the people who come and go each year.
🏆 The golden rule
Clubs must:
- set their long-term goals at the club level;
- hire the best people around, who, with their talent, contribute to the club's results in the short term.

Having the knowledge that patience and continuity are the key to growing the club.
